“Marquis de Lafayette Returns”
A Tour of America’s National Capital Region
Celebrate the Bicentennial of Lafayette’s Farewell Tour and come hear author Elizabeth Reese discuss her book and the journey Marquis de Lafayette took 200 years ago. This is a free event open to the public. There will also be reenactors, and artifacts and information on Lafayette’s Farewell Tour, including his stop in Harrisburg.  First person interpreter Mark Halbert will be on-hand as Marquis de Lafayette and David Biser will be John Harris, Jr.
Elizabeth Reese is a public historian in the Washington, D.C. area. Elizabeth has spent over a decade as an interpreter at federal historic sites, including Hamilton Grange National Memorial and the United States Capitol. Her work has been published in TIME, American Heritage Magazine, and the New York Times. She has delivered lectures at various historic institutions, including George Washington’s Mount Vernon, The American Revolution Institute of the Society of the Cincinnati, and the White House Historical Association. Elizabeth was awarded the Scott Hartwig Public History Fellowship at the Civil War Institute in 2015 and the America 250! Commendation Medal in 2024.
Elizabeth is currently the Associate Manager of Marketing at Woodlawn & Pope-Leighey House. She is also currently working towards the completion of her Master of Arts in American History from Gettysburg College where her research is focused on public memory, family ties, and grief. Her first book, Marquis de Lafayette Returns: A Tour of America’s National Capital Region, was published by The History Press (imprint of Arcadia Publishing) in 2024.
