Independence Day at the Mansion
Saturday, July 4, 10am-1pm
The Historical Society of Dauphin County will present the 10th annual public reading of the Declaration of Independence on Saturday, July 4, from the porch of the John Harris-Simon Cameron Mansion. The Declaration will be read by John Harris, Jr., portrayed by reenactor David Biser.
Readings will take place on the hour at 10:00am, 11:00am, and noon.
There is no fee to hear the readings and free parking is available behind the Mansion and in the UPMC Hospital parking garage.
Due to Corona-19 social distancing and sanitation procedures, there will be a few differences this year:
1) We will not be able to provide tours of the Harris-Cameron Mansion. We are working on opening the Mansion back up soon but are not ready to safely do so at this point.
2) We will not be able to provide any kids activities or sell our usual food, beverage, and book offerings.
3) We will not be able to provide chairs. Please feel free to bring your own chairs or blankets
While these temporary changes may not be ideal, the reading will be as inspiring as ever and will remind you of the reason for the holiday.
* We will also be facebook live streaming the reading on our facebook page for those that are unable to attend.
