Bucher Ayres

Bucher Ayres was the son of William Ayres and Mary Elizabeth Bucher. His father was one of the most well known residents of central Pennsylvania, being, at various times throughtout his life, a merchant, justice of the peace, lawyer, member of the Legislature, city councilman, and Director of the US Bank in Philadelphia, instrumental in bring running water and gas to Harrisburg and building a new prison, and active in the railroad business. He died in 1856, around the time this daguerreotype of his son was taken. Bucher was born 1818 and became a civil engineer and railroad superintendent. He married Jane Alice Lyon, and they had several children.
