13-1 Rain through last night to about 9 am, then clear and windy and warm.. Rev. J. N. Patterson (v. 6 inst) preached for us in Hall of House of Representatives morning 10 am and evening 7 ½ pm. Discourse in pm on "That I may ___ Christ and be found in him."

John Calvin and self there in morning, all us, that is Mrs. Rawn, self, Fanny and Calvin in evening. Home 9, to bed 9 ½.

He sent by Mr. Boyd the jailer to me after dinner that he wanted to see me. He had just been put in on a charge of false pretenses. Michael Casey bailed him out.

There was no real foundation for the charge as I told Steve McCullen, Bostian and Yarman who came into the jailer’s office while I was talking with McKeon and appeared to be all venomous in prosecuting him, no more than for the charge of murder.

Wrote to son Charles, Princeton, enclosing him $5.00

Walked through day but chiefly between 4 to 6 pm, 4 to 6 miles.

Received letter from Peter Kline Lykens, May 11 wrote in reply giving him a full and long opinion in points suggested. Was at Superior Court Room at 9 am. No quorum of judges present- had adjoined to 9 am tomorrow. Evening home to bed 9.

At Superior Court 9 to 10 am, then from 10 to 11 at audit, Harrison as converse at H. M. Grayson’s office. Walked through day but chiefly between 6 and 7 pm, 4 to 6 miles.

Mrs. Rawn per daughter Fanny to buy apron, bonnet strings, cap &c at F. $2.00

Paid Houser and ______ for saw knife and screws .28=$2.28

Evening at home and to bed 9 to 10.

Commenced getting ice of John Winters at ____ cents per day. I walked through day but chiefly between 6 and 7 pm 4 to 6 miles. Spent evening at home, to bed 9 ½.

Mrs. Mary Henry here all day cleaning house.

Walked 3 to 4 miles between 10 and 11 am and the same distance between 6 and 71/2 pm. On my return on the Ridge Road on evening walk I met Mrs. D. A. S. Eyster and her mother Mrs. Blessing about 2/3 of the way out to the Race Course. They turned and we walked back together. I have not seen Mrs. B. Since some time last fall. She has been away all winter at Frederick, Washington &c. Neither have I seen Mrs. E to spend 2 [minutes?] with her for some weeks or months, except once or twice I met her in passing in the street. We took a look at their yard as we returned. I merely looked in the yard, that is stepped inside the gate, but did not stop more than 5 minutes. Home 7 ½, to bed 9 ½.

Mrs. Mary Henry here all day again cleaning house. I paid her in full for 2 days $1.50. (v.10 or 11 inst)

Daughter Fanny and self walked round by Capitol &c. in forenoon, and by Front St. where Sam Burton shaking our carpets. Spent evening at home, to bed 9 ½..

Herman Alricks Esq. and self walked 3 to 4 miles cir. between 4 and 5 pm., stopping a few minutes at Auditor General’s office out of rain and Mr. Connor and self walked after supper between 7 and 8pm, 3 ½ miles circular. To bed 9 pm.
