Scope and Content

The collection contains primarily letters written by Gordon L. Werner to his family during his service in World War I, 1917-1919, and letters written by George A. Werner, Jr. to his brother, 1918-1919. Collection includes newspaper clippings of articles concerning the war in France, photos of the war aftermath in France, and some business papers regarding the Werner Publishing Company established by Gordon Werner after the war, a scrapbook of articles written by Gordon Werner for the Harrisburg Telegraph, and the obituary notice for Gordon L. Werner, April 9, 1940.

Included in the scrapbook of Gordon Werner's writings is a handwritten journal of the proceedings of a council held by the U. S. Commission of Indian Affairs with the chiefs of the Senecas and a mixed band of Seneca and Shaunee Indians on December 26, 1832, concerning their location upon lands assigned to them by the government. No explanation is given as to why this document is included with this collection.
