Scope and Content

The collection contains two booklets published by the Garden Club in 1968 and 1982 with information about the club, programs for events held to celebrate the Golden Anniversary in 1978, and a newspaper clipping of Paul B. Beers' column "Reporter at Large" published in May, 1978.

Background

The Garden Club of Harrisburg was organized April 24, 1928, as an outgrowth of the Iris Club, which was established in 1915. The purpose of the Garden Club is to stimulate an interest in horticulture in the Harrisburg area; to promote a knowledge of gardening among amateurs; to advance city and roadside beautification; to promote conservation of trees, plants, and bird life; and to promote an interest and appreciation of flower arranging.
