![]() William Buehler William Buehler was the son of George Buehler and Maria Nagle. He was born in 1808 in Erie, PA. His father moved to Harrisburg in 1813. While a young man William moved to Chambersburg where he learned the mercantile trade before moving to Philadelphia to open a hardware store. He returned to Harrisburg in 1848 and took charge of the Buehler House, which had been run by the family since 1818. He entered the insurance business and became State Agent for the Insurance Company of North America. He was an active member of the Protestant Episcopal Church and was warden of St. Stephen's Church. He helped establish the Home of the Friendless, the City Hospital, and was a member of the Harrisburg Benevolent Society. He married Henrietta Snyder and had three sons and three daugthers.
