23 1 Clear & cloudy & blustery & some little rain & spits & snow in Evg -I sepnt day at home. Wife & son Chas went to Church in morning & I remd with Daughter Mary-walked 1 mis circular about 12 ½ to 1 PM.-called at Gov Shunks & also at Ex Gov Findlays rooms at Buehlers Hotel at 6 to 6 ½ PM. both of them unwell. Then went to Methodist Church to hear lecture on Temperance by Mr R. Gough~Superior lecturer house crammed full-25 yrs of all by his (????) & home 9 ½ & to bed 10 PM.

Jno B. Gough lecture-Admission tickets 12 1/2 ~pd for wife & self 25cts.~great crowd there say persons-I was not so much entertained as last night although his lecture very good & Considered Superior by those who did not hear him last night.~home 9 ½ & to bed 10 PM.

25 3 Clear & Fine~windy but not so cold did not freeze last night-yesterday Bot 775 lbs Stone Coal 86cts at $2 ½ per Ton (Deld himself) of J. Mc Martin on (?) from G.T. Williams agt for W. Beach (v.ante 12 alt. 5 Tons 775 lbs to this time this Member) Wrote letter to S D Adair Esq in reply to his recd 8 inst & to Christn Kintzel Millersburg-rode on horseback from 10 to 11 1/2AM 9 mis Rev Mr Matin agent etc in office in afternoon-also Mr. Walter Thompson & his brother from Pittsburg-Rented my front office to home for Ryan from 1 Apl next for $1.40 for a Dry Goods Store-he to put up all fixtures at his own expense etc.Was at Gov Shunks room from 7 to 9 ¼ PM-also short time in Ex Gov Findlays room, between those hours last PM-Mr Gazzum of Allgheny Co in Gov’s room & others home at 9 ¼ and to bed at 10 PM.

26 4 Clear & Fine-fresh but not cold-some windy. froze & made some ice last night..pd for 2 lbs Butter. Paid to Hannah our hired woman last Evg (added above: & 50cts today) 6cts for Legans 6cts. rode on horseback from 9 to 11 ½ AM. 8 mis & stopped at Louch’s Smith Shop and got horses hind shoes moved. Paid for Doz 8 by 10 slats 31 ¼ & for 1 lb Putty 8cts. at Mc Curdys for inst=property Amt $1.01 1/4, called at Dolls boarding house at 4 ½ PM to see Mr. Russell who has been sick for some 2 mos. spent Evg chiefly in parlour~James R. Mowden Esq St. Tress in from 8 to 9 PM. To bed 9 ½ PM.

27 5 Clear & Fine~mild~warm did not freeze last night. rode on horseback from 9 ¼ to 11 ¼ AM. 8 mis stopping at Oglesby’s Farm to see Sorrel Horse spoken of by Louck yesterday-did not like him-spent rest of day partly superintending home repairs at winter property & chiefly in office-Evg in ofc & to bed 9 ½ PM.

28 6 Clear & Fine~warm-no frost last night town very dusty-Engaged chiefly till 4 PM at tending to cleaning & petitioning off cellar-transplanting trees in yard etc. Geo Utz & Chas Rinehart working part of day-pd Perry Hooper 30cts in full for hauling coal 25.inst. & 2 loads of dirt from my cellar today. pd for 1 Qt molasses 12 ¼ for 1 lb Rice 6 ¼ sundries 1 ¼-Amt 50cts. Recd of Jno Schaeffer

Mch 28 6 Contd of Jno Schaeffer for Chas Martin $3.00 on a/c in advance for 1 mos rent from 1 Apl to 1 May. Rode on horseback 3 ½ mis from 5 to 6 PM to Mc Callanny Mill below town & back & spent Evg in office & to bed 10 PM.
