I was at Hopple House in forenoon and again short time after 4 pm. They finished raising it before dinner. Mrs. Rawn, self and children attended a singing concert conducted by Mr. Loomis (teacher South Ward), Mr. Knoche assisting at piano, by girl and boys of South Ward Common Schools, some 50 to 60 girls and 30 boys or more aged from 9 or so up to 14 or 15. I paid admittance for self, Mrs. Rawn, and Charles .75 cents and for John Calvin .15 cts.

Dr.. Seiler and Jacob Houser two of the S. W. Directors were there as patrons (official) &c. The performance was highly creditable to Mr. Loomis and the children. The girls were neatly and handsomely dressed, generally in white, with wreathes of flowers about their heads and bunches pinned here and there about shoulders and bosoms and hankies in hands of many of them. The audience was by no means meritoriously large as the performance arrangement were well committed to.

Rev. Mr. Cattell, our preacher, moved his goods to town yesterday from Easton and is getting fixed up in his new home on Front St., several of our people assisting him, viz. John H. Haldeman and one or two hands in his pay. Mrs. Warford, their daughters (adopted) and their black fellow Oscar, Mrs. Rawn was there also short time and Charles and myself awhile just before tea when we assisted to put up a bed stead. Mrs. W. Kean, half sister of Mr. Cs’ wife, came with him and appears to be a thorough going, practical, sensible young woman and with all rather comely. By the way her easy, plain, practical demeanor in the midst of strangers as though she had known us all for years settled my opinion of her at once. It did not take me five minutes to put her down in my judgement No. 1 and a body that would make a loveable and first rate wife. Whew! What if she knew I had so written of her. She might supposed I was hasty or green or lack of judgement. No adds that’s my mode of decision and I’ll engage it to be comprised in similar cases 99 times and 7/8 out of a hundred. Home from concert at 9 ½ to 9 3/4 to bed 10.
