Scope and Content

Includes concert programs from 1895 to 1916, tickets for the 1897 concert, and a scrapbook of the activities from 1894 to 1916 taken from the files of C. W. Yoder who was the society's superintendent of concert arrangements. The scrapbook was compiled by Ross H. Swope in 1928.

Following the December 1894 convention of the Pennsylvania State Music Teachers' Association held in Harrisburg, public sentiment as expressed in newspaper comment and editorials requested the singers of Harrisburg to continue the chorus which was formed for that event so that the community could enjoy hearing the works of the great masters. This led to the organization of the Harrisburg Chorale Society in January, 1895 and continued until 1916.
