Scope and Content

Includes programs of the Candlelight Tours given by the Association for the years 1973-75, 1980-83, 1985-86, 1988, 1992, 1994. The majority of the programs contain pictures of the historic houses on the tour and a brief synopsis of its significance and owner. Collection also has a program from the 1988 Awards Presentations and Reception; a brochure describing the "Old Midtown Walking Tour," undated; minutes of the meetings of the Board, 1984-1985; reports of contributions, financial planning, programs for 1984-1986; the application for the Allied Arts Fund, 1985; and a copy of the newsletter, 1981.

Background

The Historic Harrisburg Association (HHA) was organized in January, 1973 by Harrisburg residents and friends of the city. It is a non-profit, non-political organization dedicated to promoting the preservation and restoration of historic properties and objects throughout the City of Harrisburg. It is best known for its annual Candlelight House Tour at which thousands of people are exposed to beautiful examples of outstanding vintage architecture.
