Includes correspondence to Maurice C. Eby, mayor of the city of Harrisburg from the Joint Special Committee of the Councils of the City of Philadelphia on the World's Columbian Exposition concerning the arrival of the Liberty Bell in Harrisburg, April, 1893; a listing of the members of the official escort and the itinerary of the train from Philadelphia to Chicago; and a booklet, "The Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Philadelphia," by Charles S. Keyser, 1893 which provides a complete history and record of the bell.

Background

Maurice C. Eby was mayor of Harrisburg at the time the Liberty Bell was transported from its home in Independence Hall, Philadelphia, to the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois. He was informed the "Bell" would be passing through the city of Harrisburg on Tuesday, April 25, 1893, arriving at 1:00 p.m. and remain about one hour.
