Includes papers of three Fahnestock family members:

An invitation to a cotillion party sent to Miss M. Fahnestock in 1828; three writing booklets of Mary Matilda Fahnestock, 1821 & 1823.

A copy of the obituary for Adam K. Fahnestock, which appeared in the Harrisburg Telegraph, November 16, 1887

A program booklet of the 21st Annual Meeting of the Pennsylvania German Society held in Harrisburg, October, 1911, which was the property of William Fahnestock.

Background

The Fahnestock family is one of the oldest in the United States and all are descended from Diedrich, who came from Westphalia, Germany, in 1726 and located in Ephrata, Lancaster County. Adam K., b. 1806, and Mary Matilda Fahnestock, b. 1808, are the children of Obed Fahnestock and Anna Maria Gessell. William Fahnestock, b. 1857, d. 1936, was the eldest son of Harris C. who was the eldest son of Adam K. and his first wife, Sybil Holbrook Fahnestock.
