Scope and Content

The collection contains a booklet which describes the fight between the Monitor and Merrimac on March 9, 1862, as given by Major R. S. Collum, U.S.M.C., and includes a copy of a letter written by Lieutenant S. Dana Greene, the Executive Officer of the Monitor, to his father and mother. At the meeting of the Pennsylvania Commandery, Naval Order of the United States, on March 9, 1898, it was resolved that the description and the letter be published and a copy sent to each member of the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States. The booklet also includes the officers of the General Commandery, 1895-1898 and the membership roll of the Pennsylvania Commandery, N.O.U.S.
