Scope and Content

The collection contains a copy of the "Civil War Diary" of Private Robert Scott Moorhead of Erie County who served with the 145th Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteers, 4th Brigade, 1st Division, 2nd Army Corps, Army of the Potomac. It was transcribed and published by the soldier's grandson, George E. Reed, Lt. Col. USAF (Retired) of Harrisburg in 1988.

The collection also contains a letter from Richard J. Sommers of the U. S. Army Military History Institute in Carlisle, Pennsylvania to Lt. Col. George E. Reed, 1988.

Background

Robert Scott Moorhead, b.1844, d. 1921, of Erie County was the grandfather of George E. Reed, Lt. Col. USAF (Retired) of Harrisburg, who transcribed and published Private Moorhead's diary in 1988.
