Scope and Content

The collection contains the marriage certificate for Louis F. Haehnlen and Amanda M. Nass, 1893; genealogy notes listing the family of Jacob and Margaretta (Kohlenkamp) Haehnlen; notes written on envelope concerning deaths of family members; and a large family photo album with brass clasp.

Background

Jacob Haehnlen was born in Harrisburg in 1824, died in 1892. He was involved in several business ventures - grocery, lithograph and printing, chamois and sponge; he also owned and improved the "Belle Vue" graperies and fruit farm near Harrisburg. He was a stockholder in the West Harrisburg Market Company, the City Passenger Railway Company, National Bank, the Harrisburg Bridge Company, and was the originator of the Prospect Hill Cemetery Company. He married Margaretta Kohlenkamp, born in 1828, died in 1900. Their children were Theodore, died at nine years of age; Edward of Philadelphia, married Ida Grafley; Dr. W. Frank, married Julia Nass, he was a professor at the Medico-Chi College of Philadelphia; Louis F., married Amanda Nass; and Emma, wife of W. Frank Witman.
