Background

Homeland Center was chartered in 1867 and known at that time as the Home for the Friendless. The original mission statement described it as a home dedicated to assisting elderly men and women to lead active, happy lives in the atmosphere of a true home, wherein each resident's physical, mental and financial needs can be met, and where the residents' concerns can be shared with those whose aim is to guide each resident with love and care. The 2002 mission statement describes the Center as dedicated to providing residents with support and healthcare services in a safe, secure, and caring environment; promote an atmosphere of dignity, kindness, courtesy and consideration for each resident; and foster neighborhood and community outreach among staff and residents by participating in activities and concerns of the community.
