Scope and Content

The collection contains a letter with envelope written by Robert N. Greenfield to Mrs. Mary Ford about the death of her husband, William Ford, who was killed by a shell on July 18, 1864, near Petersburg. He writes concerning the money found on his person and informs her that it and other things belonging to her husband would be sent to her. He tells her, also, that the country lost a good and brave soldier, and the company lost one of its best members.


The daughter of William Ford, Mary Ford Bair, and grandson, Gilbert Ford Bair, list their residence as 2336 North Fourth Street, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
