Scope and Content

The collection contains an invitation with reception card to the wedding of Lavinia (Venie) Sterling Towson and William J. Middleton on April 26, 1888. The wedding took place in the Eutaw St. M. E. Church in Baltimore, Maryland.


William J. Middleton M. D. received his degree from Jefferson Medical College in 1879 and returned to Harrisburg to set up his practice. He served in various capacities; in 1884 he moved to Steelton to serve as surgeon to the Pennsylvania Steel Company. In 1888 he resigned that position to devote his time to his own practice in Steelton. He married Lavinia Sterling Towson of Baltimore; they had three sons: William Towson, Albert Gamble, and Leonard Reynolds.
