Scope and Content

The collection contains correspondence to Paul Schelhas during his years as a police officer, 1914-1940, and a telegram sent to his daughter in 1939; family legal documents such as marriage certificates, subpoena in divorce, certificates of baptism and confirmation, etc.; a bound book of the burial service of Henry V. Ball; a page from a Bible recording births and deaths of the Weibly family, 1849-1977; newspaper clippings of family events, 1914-1938; and family photos.

Background

Paul Schelhas was born in Harrisburg in 1886. He became a member of the city police force in 1911, and made the rank of captain in 1930. He was acting chief of the Harrisburg City Police Department at the time of his death in 1941. He was married to Grayce Weibly in 1909. They had one daughter, Charlotte, born in 1911.
