Scope and Content

The collection contains two booklets concerning canal travel in Pennsylvania and records of the Pennsylvania Canal. The booklets are:

"An Historical Account of the Rise, Progress and Present State of the Canal Navigation in Pennsylvania," published in 1795.

"Travelling on the Pennsylvania Canal," as described by Charles Dickens, 1911.

The records of the Pennsylvania Canal include a booklet with the rules and regulations for the operation of the Pennsylvania Canal, 1869, a receipt, 1872, and three check rolls listing the names of men employed, their occupation, and rate of pay for March and April, 1901.
