Scope and Content

The collection contains publications about the floods of 1936 and 1972; newspaper clippings reporting on the floods of 1936, 1972, and a flood in 1900 which carried away two spans of the old Harrisburg bridge; a paper written about the flood of 1936 by Ralph Hosmer with a listing of the readings of the gauges showing the rise of the river in 1936; and a videotape, "Agnes," the flood of 1972, produced by WGAL Channel 8.

A large scrapbook with newspaper clippings about the flood of January, 1996, which swept away the western section of the Walnut Street Bridge, has been added to the collection.
