Scope and Content

The collection contains primarily papers concerning Merle Criswell Stump, several items concerning Samuel and Minnie Criswell, many of which are about the Criswell Annual reunions, and a few items of Mervin Stump.

The Criswell papers include a record book of payments made on a mortgage of S. J. and Minnie Criswell from 1904 to 1919; a baptismal booklet for Merle Mary Criswell, 1908; a receipt from the Harrisburg Cemetery Association, 1922; reunion minutes, 1925-1941, and list of names and addresses; a memorial card for Minnie Gardner Criswell, b. 1872, d. 1940.

The papers of Merle and Mervin Stump include church directories for Stevens Memorial United Methodist Church, 1991-94; a Sunday School class record, 1951; miscellaneous church items; a Decree in Divorce, 1925; passport, bank books, insurance papers; family correspondence; news clips and family photos; papers concerning Bethany Village where she lived in later years; financial accounts; cards from her 100th birthday celebration, 1999; obituaries, last will and testament of Mervin G. Stump and birth certificate, invoice for meal following funeral for Mervin Stump; and a certificate of appreciation from the Department of Highways for Merle Stump's forty-one years of service, 1968.

Samuel and Minnie Gardner Criswell lived at 218 North 14th Street in Harrisburg.

Merle Criswell Stump, b. 1899, d. 2000, daughter of Samuel and Minnie Criswell married Mervin Stump. She was a secretary of the Department of Highways, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and worked in the state departments of Banking and Health. She was an active member of Stevens Memorial United Methodist Church. She and her husband had no children. She died three days before her 101st birthday and was survived by a nephew and several cousins.
