Scope and Content

Collection contains items concerning Harrisburg Schools, including a pupil's program card, 1957; a commencement booklet for 1898; school tax receipts, 1870-1880; school examination list, 1880; photograph of a soap box cart race in 1937; a report by Henry Snyder on the high school situation in Harrisburg, 1912; a study of the public schools of Harrisburg by Frank Spaulding, 1922; and a large booklet of a teacher's monthly reports, 1875 to 1879.

Additional items have been added to the collection. They include a booklet describing Dauphin County medals written by T. R. McIntosh in honor of the Dauphin County Bicentennial, 1885-1985, revised edition, 2007; a pamphlet describing a bronze medal and a silver medal used as awards for outstanding students at the Pennsylvania Female College; a photocopy of the program for the annual commencement at the Pennsylvania Female College in July, 1856.

Background

Many of the materials are from the teacher Eliza Kauffman, but her relationship to the donor is not known.
