Scope and Content

Collection contains the business papers of William Gilchrist, merchant, at 445 North Second Street, Philadelphia, associated with Andrew Manderson. They include bills of lading, price lists, invoices and correspondence with James and John Marsh, Sheffield, England; Barclay, Salkeld and Co. of Liverpool; John Moore Co. of Dublin, Ireland and other miscellaneous business letters from David McGibbon and Will McClure. Included, also, are three insurance policies for shipments of goods from New York to Belfast and Philadelphia to Dublin. A letter book contains the letters written by William Gilchrist to his business associates, 1802-1806. The collection contains one family letter - a letter from his brother and sister, Robert and Jane "Kilcreest," written in June, 1804.
