9-1 Clear – Pleasant. Wife & children (except Calvin) at Church in morning and wife there in Even – I called at Stephen Miller’s house in morning at 9 1/n A.M. walked 3 ½ miles between 4 and 5 P.M. Home from Ch. 8 ¼ to bed 9 ¼ P.M.
10-2 Clear Cloudy Windy. blusterly & cold in Even. I spent day chiefly at home – walked 3 ½ miles between 4 ¾ & 5 ¾ P.M. Thos.R. Trimble here this afternoon heard speeches in Court House in Ev at whig meetings [?] would be made against the ProS. [?] and then went to Pro. meetings in market where [several names; Van Wagnr, Miller, ?] made self made speeches very great enthusiasm. home 9 2/4 to bed 10 ¼ P.M.
11-3 Clear. Fine. Cold. Overcoats in considerable use an election of wind though I put none on till Even. I voted today for Bishop & Rop ProSgL. candidates for assembly and then to the [?] except for Survey or General & Judge of the Supreme court for those in office. I voted for the Free soil can [?] and think of voting against [?] men for these offices. I spent day, Ev. chiefly absent the polls except that I walked 3 ½ miles between 4 & 5 P.M. to bed 10 P.M. wife [?] front st at 10 P.M. to see Ben fine on [?] opposed to sting alcohol
12-4 (October 12) Clear. Fine. Pleasant. pd 1 lb Butter 17 cts. 11 lbs Beef 4 lbs crackers 25 and 2 lbs Sweet crackers 16 at [?] Philip Burton for sawing splitting 2 loads of wood. Philip Burton for 1 Bus Potatoe 62 sold him this day. pay for his work in finest 1 lb Potatoes – walked 3 miles – spent ev chiefly at home – wife at meeting – to bed at 9 P.M.
13-5 Clear. Fine. Pleasant. Made fire in an furnace for [?] time this fall for benefit charity of [?] something to me about it yesterday – it is however not cold enough for it today being much milder than for a few days back – walked 3 miles between 4 & 5 P.M. Spent Ev. at home to bed 9 P.M.
14-6 Clear. Fine. Pleasant. I was engaged to two or three hours in morning mending [?] in health and in the afternoon getting new Girard cooking stove at Smilers and getting same fixed up in kitchen [?] yesterday to A.P. Jacob Esq Lewistown [?] also yesterday to W.B. Hierkell Esq Phil. Kept copy enclosing [?] Henry Clarke. wrote note in Ev. Ev at home to bed 9 P.M.
15-7 Clear. Fine-Pleasant. pd 2 lbs butter 34 ¾ lbs beef 23 cornmeal turnips & sundries 25 including 12 for sugar Powder Whot 10 for Postage Stamps 24 – for Sweet Potatoes 16 Amt $1.32 1/n – Furnished [?] per his wife & boys with wheelbarrow with ¾ Bus Potatoe, in full of his work [?] for advertising stone, in The Borough Stem for about ten days. M.A. Smiler to his order on D.D.B.R. $22.00 in full of [?] Girard Ring Stove & fixtures (yesterday) pd 1 qt burning fluid 22 Snyder for Stove Pipe Crack for kitchen stove 12 to Andrew Kraus for 25 37 – Amt 72 cts letter from A.P. Jacob Esq. Lewistown Oct. 14th in reply to mine of 13. walked 3 Miles between 4 & 5 P.M. son Chas & Will gunning all day Wm Chas self called at [?] to him about building our stairs [?] is in partnership with him present all the time
