Scope and Content

Consists of the handwritten minutes of the meetings of the Harmonical Association from its establishment on June 9, 1818 to February 22, 1821. Includes the constitution and preamble as it was adopted on June 9, 1818, with signatures of each member of the musical society. A handwritten note at the end of the book notes that the State Capital Band was organized February 2, 1858 and continued until the spring of 1861 when its members went off to serve in the army. It lists the names of the founders of the Band.


The Harmonical Association began with a meeting of young men at the Academy in the Borough of Harrisburg on Tuesday, June 9, 1818 for the purpose of organizing a muscial society. They adopted a constitution and elected officers.
