MG 040 - Kelso Collection

<< MG 039MG 041 >>

Scope and Content

A small account book kept by Joseph Kelso for the year 1828. He records expenses for food and drink, keeps the accounts of several persons, makes notes about men starting to "hostle" on the front cover, and on the back cover notes the days "Abrahams" boarded and dates payment received.

The Kelso family in the 1700's operated the ferry house on the west bank of the Susquehanna River in Cumberland County. It has not been determined if the Joseph Kelso who kept the memorandum book in 1828 was a descendant of that family.
