Scope and Content

Consists of the booklet published in 1864 on the fiftieth anniversary celebration of the Harrisburg Bible Society, which provides a historical sketch of the society from its date of organization in 1814, and a copy of a lecture delivered in Harrisburg by Rev. B. F. Brown on "The Popular Objections to the Bible and Christianity."

Background

The Harrisburg Bible Society was established in 1814 as an auxiliary to the Philadelphia Bible Society and continued in existence for many years. In 1851 it was instrumental in establishing other societies in the region and later the establishment of the Dauphin County Bible Society.
