Scope and Content

A scrapbook of newspaper clippings, programs, correspondence, and photos of the activities of the Citizens Committee of South Harrisburg and the Harris Park Civic Association from 1945-1981. The book was assembled by Mrs. Joseph Eutzy, Jr., one of the original members of the Association.

Background

The Citizens Committee of South Harrisburg came into being late in the year 1944 when citizens of the community were protesting the proposed flood wall extending along the river bank from the Mulberry St. Bridge and south beyond the Central Iron & Steel Co. The Harris Park Civic Association was organized in 1952 to preserve and advocate proper maintenance of historic Harris Park and the surrounding territory.
