Scope and Content

Contains historical documents including the original petition to the state legislature by the congregation for the liberty of raising funds by way of a lottery to pay debts incurred by the building of a church, dated December 30, 1815; and the handwritten minutes of the meetings of the Board of Managers, March 20-31, 1829. Historical events are traced in a series of booklets, 1787-1975.

Programs for church services and other events, 1846-1917, including the Centennial Celebration in 1895 with correspondence concerning the service.

Booklets for Services of Dedication in 1959, Zion's Storied Windows, 1955; 175th Anniversary, 1970; and programs for services, 1975-1987, including the 200th anniversary.

Sabbath School papers include programs for the Sabbath School, 1860, 1878, and the Centennial Anniversary in 1919; a scrapbook of information on Martin Luther; handwritten minutes of the Harrisburg Sunday School Teachers' Union Association, June, 1856 to January, 1857; and a certificate form of membership and Sunday School tickets.

Miscellaneous papers include a paper on the "Early Harrisburg Cemeteries" with a map of the "Burying Grounds, 1807-1857" and a news clipping about the church and the Harrisburg Centennial Celebration, 1960; a certificate of church membership presented to Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Oglesby by Pastor Viggo Swensen in 1959.
