Scope and Content

The collection contains the original subscription book of the Middletown and Harrisburg Turnpike Road Company which lists the name of the subscriber and the amount of shares purchased for fifty dollars per share, 1815, and the "Book of Minutes" of the Company from July, 1815 to January, 1870. The latter includes a letter sent by Richard W. Woods, attorney-at-law, concerning a resolution for the payment of $2500 to the estate of George W. Cumbler by the condemned Turnpike Road Company for property lying between the Turnpike and the Pennsylvania Canal, 1904, and a receipt from Weiss & Gilbert for professional services. Collection includes also a notice sent to the Gatekeeper by Jacob Seiders concerning necessary repairs needed to the road, 1880.
