Scope and Content

The collection contains the programs for the Mozart Festival in Harrisburg May 14-17, 1928, and May 8-10, 1930, Ward-Stephens, conductor. The first for 1928 describes the event as the first Mozart Festival in America. Included were three major compositions, one of them having its premier presentation, ten soloists, the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra, a chorus of more than 200 voices, and an auxiliary chorus of 200 children's voices. It was held at the William Penn Auditorium and the Hershey Auditorium. Program lists the officers and trustees of the Mozart Festival and the Harrisburg Music Foundation, ticket prices, transportation and parking facilities, and the order of events. A short description of each soloist is also included.
