Scope and Content

The collection contains the papers of Marian Oellig who was employed at the Bowman's Department Store for many years and collected many items concerning the department store. Those items include employee papers such as the personnel manual and the group insurance plan; her product guides for appliances; advertisements for other products sold by Bowman's; copies of the Bowman Bugle Newsletter, 1960-1972; plans and photos for Bowman's display of appliances at the Builders' Show; customer account papers; stationery for John Bowman Delaney, Executive Vice President; materials of the Yesteryears club including a newspaper clipping concerning the closing of the store in 1976.

Contains three issues of "The Scroll" newsletter of Lower Paxton Jr. High School, 1960 & 1961; issues of the "Rambler" newsletter of the Central Dauphin High School, 1963-66, and the yearbook "Tech Tatler" for 1925; 3 issues of the newsletter published by Dauphin Electric Company, 1979 & 1980, and a book of blank purchase order forms; newspapers of various entities such as "Portals" from the Theodore Burr Covered Bridge Society, the Thew Lorain News published by the Thew Shovel Co., a product sold by L. B. Smith, Inc. of Camp Hill and an issue of "The Tip" a teenage newspaper, 1965; personal invoices of Charles and Marion Oellig, 1935-1970; and an original handwritten letter by Governor Hartranft to Frank Thomas written from the Executive Chamber in July, 1877.

Contains a collection of advertising materials and brochures of Harrisburg organizations as the Arts Festival, the Harrisburg Area Community College, Harrisburg National Bank and Trust Co., Harrisburg Hospital, Broad St. Market, Founders Hall in Hershey, the Iron Horse Ramble sponsored by Reading Co., Capitol Trailways Vacation Tours and the Susquehanna Valley Bicentennial Festival in 1976.
