Scope and Content

The collection contains a letter written by an old soldier, William J. Brown, who was at the Battle of Little Round Top. The letter was written to the Attorney General in December, 1913. The collection also contains a panoramic photo of the dignitaries attending the 50th anniversary celebration of the Battle of Gettysburg, July 1-4, 1913 and 55 photos of scenes from the celebration. A photo of the City Greys leaving Harrisburg was transferred to the Photo Archives (I 05906).


The items belonged to Lizette Fitzimons Carey, 1934 North Second Street, Harrisburg, who was secretary of Lieutenant Colonel Lewis E. Beitler, the secretary of the Battle of Gettysburg Commission. They were donated to the Historical Society of Dauphin County by Lillian Fitzimons, sister of Mrs. Carey, in June, 1938.
