Join us Sunday, October 5th at 1pm as Professor Richard Moss from HACC, gives a talk on, The Spirit of ’75: From the Olive Branch Petition to “Common Sense.” Moss will discuss that while 1776 might get all the glory, but the events of 1775 set the shape and scope of the American Revolution, transforming it from a colonial uprising to an event that transformed history. In this talk, we will explore three critical step in this process: the Olive Branch petition, which attempted to limit the scope and goals of the conflict, Lord Dunmore’s Proclamation, which complicated the revolutionaries’ goals while drawing more colonists into the fight, and Thomas Paine’s “Common Sense,” written in late 1775 and published in January of 1776, which solidified colonists’ resolve for independence.
