26 ~ 2 Rain ~ Snow ~ began to Snow about 10 or 11 A.M. [?] freeze slightly about noon. Our family all dined at Peacock. Note to J. Graves [?]. Rochester New York in Answer to their letter handed to by J. Peacock Esq 24 in[?] – in forming them of my interview with O. Barrett Sat. Eveng[evening] & of his [?] poverty and inability to pay any money. C.A. Ru[?] in my office at 11 A.M. & asked me how long a time I would give to pay Hildeburn[?] Watson’s claim vs Snevily if he would give his note for it without interests. I informed him [?] do what I had offered Snevily. Took $200 down & divide the Bal. into 4 payts[payments] at 60 days for 1st [?] [?] nothing. Was at my office till 10 P.M. D. Stine Esq there

27 ~ 3 Clear ~ Cold ~ Rec[received] letter with enclosure from Mr. A Altee ‘Half Way House" Dau. Co. by hand of Mr. Wilson Gant[?] [?] after reading to Mr. Evans Esq Atty at Law [?] Co. Pa. Enclosed in a letter to him. Wrote to Mr. A. Altee & lent by Wilson as [?] about Ennis money.

27 ~ 3 Cont.[continued] ~ Rec.[received] on 23rd inst. – wrote to Mr. A. Weidman, Lebanon, Paid Mr. Bell $4 in full of his Arbitrations pay Rec[Received] with Bill of C[/} 17th [?] & Rec Rect[receipt] [?] as Fee $3"02 – po[paid] Jacob Boyar his Arbit. Pay Rec Same $$ of Rect[receipt] overplus Fee $2"21 also po[paid] Hughes by Crediting him there with in my Fee Book of changes his Arbits. Pay overplus $4"07 in all as a Fee $8"01 – ([?]ide Bell; of Boyars Receipts in R. Book) Rec. & Ret. Of Mr. Bennett as FEE $15"71 Bill of Costs Rec[received] in 17 inst[instructions] of Pro. & Duck. Was at office till 10 P.M. Stine there.

28 ~ 4 Clear ~ Cold ~ Po[paid] for 1 crock of applebutter of [?] – 6 qts – 65 cts For 4 qts of Cornmeal 16 cts – po[paid] Mr. A. Altee in full of money collected from Mr. Ennis & Rec[received] from Sheriff Fox Cochran the 30th of last & 23rd of this Mo.[month] bal due him $35(V.R.B.) after Retaining out of $44"03 Rec pay FEE $9"03. I was in Michael Browns house to day – Rec[received] a Barrel of Cider from Capt. Mr. C. Moallinter[?] having sent him a barrel some time[?] by Philip Jones Thos Gamen[?]. [?] 290 ct[?] last. 7 as the barrel he sent me leaked I bought at Fisks 2 more bound Half Barrels & po[paid] $1"50 for them to put 2nd Cider in which I done in Evening. I was at our usual meeting with Frances ~ po[paid] for 3 lbs 6 oz loaf [?] 54 cts. For 41 lbs Brown Sugar 50 cts. & 2 lbs Coffee 32 cts on our way home. Bell gave her a Christmas Present of about 8 or 10 different kinds of Sweets or Candies. I stopt[sic] at my offic where I remained till 9 ¼ P.M. Drew Check on the H.[Harrisburg] Bank in favor of Mr. A. Altee for [?] $35 ~

29 ~ 5 Clear ~ Moderate. Paid Col. Roberts for 1 [?] of letter Pdpe[?] 18 ¾ cts. Mr Peacock, wife & 5 Children & M.P.G.[?] took tea with us. I was at my office only a short time after tea and then spent rest of Evening at home.

Weidman Frances went home with us Paid my [?] at Cold[?] for Phila[Philadelphia] tomorrow $4:50 – Handed Frances for Family purposes $4. Measured Peacock’s Lamp to keep them in place in Phila[Philadelphia]

31 ~ 7 Cont[continued] ~ at Middletown & paper 10 or 12 miles over a [?] where the Rail Rd in not yet in a state to run on – then took [?] again and arrived at Lancaster about 9 A.M. where we breakfasted & po[paid] 37 ½ cts – Therefore, dined within 10 or 15 miles of Phila[Philadelphia] about 2 P.M. & po[paid] 37 ½ cts ~ C. N[?] of [?] (Gambler) was in car with us – arrived in Phila[Philadelphia] about 4 P.M. Pd boy for wheeling my trunk to Mothers 16 ¼ cts DW Rawn Self went to the "Musical Fund Hall" at 7 P.M. to Hear Eulogaint by P.P. Brown Esq when Mrs[?] Rawle Esq Dau. 1500 to 3000 persons there I should suppose Ret. To Mothers at 9 P.M. Eul. was an elegant [?]
