28-3 Clear & frozen early in the morning but very mild & fine through day – rode on horseback 7 or 8 mis from 9 to 10 ¼ AM & walked 3 mis from 3 ½ to 4 ½ PM pd Jos Shearer (Taylor) $5. in full for making black frock coat for me this mo. (v 3rd inst).

pd Geo. Geiger $3.93 ¼ in full for 4 ½ Bus wheat deld for me at Poor House Mill by

Jno Hoffman from which flour made in 14 inst. pd for a Peck Coarse Salt 16 cts as other for Suger 5cts Amt .21 cts Recd of Chas Caston 2 loads Pine wood to pay Bal of Fee $1.50 due by him (v. 13 alt-PM inst). Spent Evg in Parlour & office & to bed 9 PM.

29-4 Clear & cooler-windy-did not freeze last night-fresh wind & fine through day. Went to Water Works-St. Library Exe chamber & from 11 ¾ AM to 12 ¾ PM. With wife & Mrs Geo Rahn Mrs Rahn spent day with us from directly after breakfast till 9 ¼ PM. her husband also took tea & spent Evg pd for 2 lbs Butter 37.. for Morse Reed etc 12 ½ cts. for 6 lbs Beef 35 cts. for 4 lbs Sugar 25 cts at Rhoads (v.24 inst) Amt $1.10 rode on horseback 6 mis from 4 to 5 PM. Spent Evg in Parlour with Mr & Mrs. Rahn & to bed 10 ¾.

Called at Canal Comr Foster at 11 ¾ AM and at Peacock’s with my wife-after party visit was in and out of Court through the day-walked 2 mis or more about 4 ¼ to 5 ¼ PM wrote letter to Israel Carpenter Esq Halifax on subject of Singles Dept to be taken Saty next-before him. Was at Gov. Shunks room from 8 to 9 ¼ PM.-home & to bed 10 ¼ PM.

I was at Exe Chamber about noon where I met Mrs Rahn Mr Rahn & a Mr Brown & his wife of New York to whom I was introdd Mr Rahn. went with ladies & Mr Brown to Hall of H of Rep. remd ¼ & went with them to Nelson Hotel where they stop at 1 PM. Then called on

Jany 31-6 Atty Genl Kane at his parlour no 37 Nelsons & remd 15 minutes and again called at 4 PM with Jno Buggs Esq. introduced him & remd ¼ an hour nearly. then walked mile or more. Spent Evg in Parlour-Mr & Mrs Peacock Miss Janey (added above) Brown, Misses Venuxen, N. Shunk & M S Clendenin, Mr James Burnside, Darsie & Capt J. K. Findlay spent Evg till 9 3/4 PM. To bed at 10 ¼ PM.

Feby 1-7 Clear & very cold-coldest day this winter. pd for 1 lb Butter 12 ¼ for box blackings 6 cts (30 wt) for Sundries 3 cts Amt 21 ¼. Recd of Geo Litz for heir of Jas Trimble decd -on a/c rent $3.09 Spent day chiefly in Court. Dr James Wynne introdd himself to me in Courthouse-afterwards at my office on subject of collecting pensions & getting some person here to act with him there in that he (??)-rode on horseback 6 mis from 4 to 5 ¼ PM to Henry Lights-& back. Wrote letter to S. D. Adair Esq Carlisle & kept Copy. pd for cough mixture at Lutz’s 31 ¼ cts. Spent Evg chiefly in office and Parlour and to bed 10 PM.
