Crowd Crams Third and State Streets for Inauguration (1935)

While Pennsylvania chose Democrat George H. Earle III in the 1934 gubernatorial election, Dauphin County remained solidly Republican. The county voted for challenger William A. Schnader over Earle by almost a 5:3 margin. Dauphin County also voted for Herbert Hoover over F.D.R. in the 1932 presidential election by a 3:2 margin. Dauphin County eventually went Democratic for one major election when it favored Roosevelt in the 1936 presidential election.
