![]() First Airplane in Elizabethville, c1913 Pictured is what may be the first airplane in Elizabethville, PA. The plane was manufactured by Talmage Brothers in New York and brought to Elizabethville via railroad by Walter E. Johnson (the pilot) and his mechanic, Earl Beers. It was uncrated and assembled in Alfred Becthel's field north of the school property. On Wednesday, September 17 at 2:45 PM it took off in a westerly direction, circled the town, and headed east, landing on the Gratz Fair Ground after a flight of six minutes. Factories, business, and schools closed for the event. Photo ID: EV00117. |
