Middletown Car Works

Six workmen are inside the Core Room at the Middletown Car Works about 1905. The plant opened about 1869 and was taken over 10 years later by Michael Schall and Arthur King of York. The business went through various difficulties including financing, economic panics, and fire for the next 20 years. When this photo was taken, the plant had recently received an order for 640 freight cars from the government of Argentina. Standard Steel Car Company bought the Middletown Car Works in 1910.
