![]() The Bijou Theatre The Bijou Theatre was located at 214 Locust Street on the corner of Raspberry Alley (now Court Street) in Harrisburg. It was built in 1822 by John Wyeth, publisher of "The Oracle" newspaper, and originally called the Shakespeare Hall. Due to lack of profits, the building was converted into the Shakespeare House hotel. In 1858 it became the Harrisburg Female Seminary. This photo was taken around the turn of the century when the building contained the theatre and a dime museum. Around 1907 the building seen here was demolished, and in its place was constructed the Telegraph Building, which stood until 1977. Today, it is a parking garage. Photo ID: ALB8-01411. |
