Former Executive Mansion

This view of buildings on South Second Street includes the Executive Mansion used by Governor Andrew G. Curtin at center. That building, 111 South Second Street, was occupied by H. A. Gable Hardware at the time this photo was taken about 1914. Curtin was Governor of Pennsylvania from 1861 to 1867. He was instrumental in the creation of the camp that bore his name and trained tens of thousands of Union troops near Harrisburg starting just days after the firing on Fort Sumter.
