![]() Hargest Island After Flood Four men sit on a rooftop after the 1889 floodwater of the Susquehanna washed logs and debris onto Hargest Island (now known as City Island). Hargest, as well as other islands and low-lying areas such as Shipoke, were inundated with logs and lumber that had rushed down river. The photo was likely taken in the first days of June, 1889. The Susquehanna crested at 26.8 feet, the third highest ever behind only the 1936 and 1972 floods. Photo ID: ALB17-02280. |
